I got up late and puttered around until almost lunchtime. I headed out to Buchanan Street and soon went past the Gallery of Modern art to check out the building where Borders was. It's kind of depressing from the Buchanan Street side (we'll get to the Exchange Square side later). It's a clothing store and the inside looked kind of like the inside of a black box. None of the character of the original building was visible at all.
The upstairs floors look deserted. However, there is something fun over to the left there
Look! It's a TARDIS!!. I actually caught a little boy getting his picture taken with it earlier. I didn't quite work up the nerve to ask anyone to take my picture yet.
The rest of my day was taken up by walking up and down Buchanan, heading over to Central Station (the Thornton's Chocolate shop is still there!) and admiring the upgrade to the hotel I stayed out back in the day. It used to be the Hotel Quality Central, but it's been totally refurbished and is now The Grand Central Hotel.
Oh I did see this notable location
Which I shall have to visit later this week and have some tea.
I went through the Argyle Arcade and back through Princes Square, which is a lot more posh than I remember. I did do a bit of shopping (mostly at Lush and H&M) before I decided to eat dinner. I went to the Italian Restaurant that was on the other side of the building Borders used to be in.
I want to make it clear that I did *NOT* go for the food. The Brits can do many things...but Italian food is not one of them. I went because a clerk at Lush told me that the original interior of the building was still visible in that side of the building.
If I remember correctly, the decoration of the ceilings were blue and off-white before, but this is still lovely.
These moldings were my favorite part of the store back in the day.
Anyway, after dinner, I headed out to find rain. Apparently, I only get one week of non-Scottish weather. So, I headed to Forbidden Planet to see what I could find...which ended up being a Dr. Who T-shirt with Daleks on it. Heading back out into the rain, I found a Marks and Spencer and headed to the food hall, where I picked up a few things. I now have yogurt and bread for breakfast.
Unlike Edinburgh, Glasgow shuts down at 7pm (a full two hours later!). Back in the room and thinking about plans for tomorrow.
Would you believe Braveheart is on TV right now?
