Bavaria Christmas Markets - Day 6 in a train station and adventures in Wurzburg

I thought I wouldn't have photos for this day, but I ended up in a photogenic area.

I woke up early-ish, packed up the rest of my stuff and headed down for the free breakfast I'd missed the last two mornings.  It was a typical German breakfast, crusty rolls, cold cuts, cheese and some yogurt and muesli.  Good coffee too.  I headed back to my room and hung out until check out time.

I had booked a late train because check-in for the next place wasn't until 4pm.  My train was leaving at 3:30 and arriving at 4:22.  Or so I thought.  I already knew I was in for a long day at the train station, but it was supposed to rain anyway.   Around noon, I got the world's most enormous mozzarella and tomato sandwich and packed half of it for later.

I had a lot of time to waste, and I sat around playing with my phone for most of the day.  Then I got a notification that the train was running 5 minutes late....then 20 minutes...then 30.  Fun times.  I ended up freezing on the platform and arriving at Wurzburg after dark.

That was a problem because I was checking into a vacation rental apartment and had to find the lock box attached to a trash shed in a back alley.  I finally found it, had a time seeing the combination and figured out I had the wrong address for the apartment.  Damn dyscalculia.  Oh yeah, it was raining the whole time.

The area around the door was dark, so it took a bit for me to get the key and unlock.  I could tell that the building is undergoing renovations all the way up to my third floor (ok, second floor by EU standards) walk-up.

The apartment is very clean with everything brand spanking new.  The bedroom looks out over the street.  I unpacked a bit, dried stuff off, and decided that I needed groceries.  According to Google Maps, there is a Aldi less than 10 minutes away...so off I went.

Aldi happened to be within sight distance of a Christmas Market...of course.  After spending less that 30 Euro on foodstuffs, I headed toward the market.

One thing this one has in common with almost every Austrian Christmas Market is the big tree.  I just realized I hadn't seen many of those here in Germany.  There are Christmas trees, but not the huge single tree towering over the market.

I didn't get a chance to really check out the market, I'll do that tomorrow when I'm not carrying water.

I'm back in the room now, watching YouTube on the TV (Yay! Smart TV) and doing laundry.  I did pick up some detergent sheets at Aldi, so I'm set for clean clothes.
